Mahalalel is the fifth generation and means God be praised. Kenan, Mahalalel and Jared arealso in Jesus’ genealogy (Luke 3:23-38). They are simply a link, like some of the individuals in the line of Cain. Like them, they are also anonymous. But however inconspicuous they may be in the biblical record, they still play a vital role in forwarding God’s plan to produce an Abraham by whom the world will be blessed and, then One greater than Abraham, in whom the world again would be blessed.94 When Mahalalel had lived 65 years, he became the father of Jared. And after he became the father of Jared, Mahalalel lived 830 years and had other sons and daughters. Altogether, Mahalalel lived 895 years, and then he died.
