The Northern Alliance and the Invasion of Isra’el
Ezeki’el 38:1 to 39:16
These chapters tell of a coming northern alliance of nations around the Black and Caspian seas, along with Persia and North Africa, who will invade Isra’el. The invaders will be destroyed once they approach Jerusalem. There are seven reasons why this battle should not be confused with the campaign of Armageddon at the end of the Great Tribulation or the return of Satan at the end of the Millennial Kingdom.
First, in Ezeki’el there are definite allies mentioned and they are limited in number. In the Campaign of Armageddon all the nations of the world are united together against Jerusalem without exception.
Secondly, the Ezeki’el invasion comes from the north, but the Armageddon invasion comes from the whole earth.
Thirdly, the purpose of the Russian (38:2) invasion is to loot the Jews; but the purpose of the Armageddon Campaign is to destroy all the Jews.
Fourthly, in the Ezeki’el invasion there is a protest against the invasion; in the Armageddon Campaign there is no protest since all the nations are involved.
Fifthly, the Ezeki’el invasion is destroyed through natural and supernatural disasters, while the personal Second Coming of Yeshua Messiah destroys the Armageddon invasion.
Sixthly, the Ezeki’el invasion is destroyed in the mountains of Isra’el, while the Armageddon Campaign is destroyed in the area between Petra and Jerusalem.
Seventh, the Russian invasion takes place while Isra’el is living securely in the Land, but the Armageddon Campaign takes place while Isra’el is in flight and in hiding.130
It will first be necessary to deal with the details of the invasion before we can determine when the invasion will take place. These verses will be studied by looking into the questions of who, where, why, what, how and when? This invasion of Isra’el will be the first of ten birth pains.
Dear Heavenly Father, Praise your Almighty power, wisdom and your love for Your firstborn Isra’el (Exodus 4:22). Praise You that You know the future and have already planned how You will rescue Isra’el when Russia and the other nations come against it. In that day, when Gog comes against the land of Israel” – it is a declaration of ADONAI – “My fury will rise up in My nostrils. In My jealousy and the fire of My wrath I have spoken! Surely in that day there will be a great earthquake in the land of Isra’el. . . I will punish him with pestilence and blood. I will pour out rain on him, on his troops and on the many peoples with him, a torrential rain, with hailstones, fire and brimstone. So, I will magnify and sanctify Myself. I will make Myself known in the eyes of many nations, and they will know that I am ADONAI” (Ezekiel 38:18-19, 22-23). What a comfort to trust You at all times – even in times of war. You are Mighty and our loving Father! We love You and delight in pleasing You. In Your holy Son’s name and power of the resurrection. Amen
